Blog Tour / The Keeper: Revenge by OL Ramos

Title: The Keeper: Revenge
Series: The Keeper Series
Genre: NA Mystery/Thriller (no sex or cursing)
Author: OL Ramos
Tour Organizer: B3 Tours

Synopsis:

Elizabeth is a brilliant loner with a troubling secret she doesn't even know. As if the trauma of her mother being abducted before her eyes as a young girl wasn't enough, the small town she lives in thinks she’s crazy. That all changed when she met Michael, a mysterious and handsome man who identified with her like no one else before. Michael’s long time friend Vincent visits and drops the bombshell of a lifetime on Elizabeth and her world becomes completely unraveled.

Vincent’s information has revealed the world for what it is; a place where the impossible is real, and myths and legends walk slyly in shadow. A world that Elizabeth will learn she too is a member. Now, the three are caught up in a thousand year long conspiracy they never could have imagined. The three must rely on one another and the secret connection they all share if they have a chance to survive.

Excerpt

“So what am I, then?” I ask after gathering enough courage.

“You’re a keeper,” Vincent says as he avoids my stare, instead choosing to look straight ahead. “A keeper, as in keeper of the blood. You are the rarest super there is, custos sanguinis. Your kind comes around once every few generations, if at all. And when your sort does show up, all hell breaks loose. Which is why I’m so thrilled you chose to know the truth. It will make protecting you that much easier.”

“All hell breaks loose?” I ask as I near the point of hyperventilation. “Why? What do you mean? Does this have something to do with the ring?”

“Something to do with it, yes,” Vincent says as he stares at the bottom of the glass bottle. “Your kind is one of the most unique supers there are, Izzy. You ever sleep with anyone?”

Vincent turns to face me with a sly smile. I slap him in the face as hard as I can, especially now that I know I can’t physically hurt him.

“You really should stop slapping me,” Vincent suggests with another smile. “I might start liking it.”

Character Bios

Elizabeth McBeth a.k.a. Liz, Izzy, Lizzy

Age: 19
Height: 5’4”
Weight: 120 lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: Blonde

Traits: Extremely perceptive and intelligent. Liz possesses a very strong conviction of what is right and wrong. It is this sense of ethics that has her constantly questioning what is right and wrong. A little insecure and a bit of a whiner, Liz is very brave. Always willing to put herself in danger in order to help out others.

Elizabeth McBeth is just what you would expect from any girl next door. She’s sweet, caring, and honest. She’s even got one of the sharpest young minds in the country. But she also has a secret that she has to live with. The horrible truth about her mother’s disappearance ten years ago… the whole reason why she studies the paranormal and goes out at night. Her mother’s disappearance has gravely hurt her life. She has to take care of her father, constant trips to the shrink and everyone looking at her like she’s a kook. Her life was pretty much going status quo until she met Michael while working at Jack’s Place Bar and Grill.

Michael Clark a.k.a Michael the Ironskin

Age: Approximately 535 years old
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 308 lbs while in his human form
Eyes: Jade green
Hair: Black

Traits: Michael is a man from a different era. As a man who was originally born in Italy, he maintains the values of his upbringing. Honesty, honor, fair play and an emphasis on strategy; all of these are held in the highest of regards for the decorated werewolf. His nature and the role he plays in conserving nature’s balance make him very careful in choosing his friends. Michael is truly one of the most selfless beings ever to walk the Earth, but his role forces him to keep his existence a secret.

Michael is a mystery to Liz, who is just tugging away layers from his handsome facade, desperately trying to uncover his secret. But what Liz doesn’t know, what she couldn’t possibly even suspect is that Michael is a werewolf. But unlike fictional werewolves, Michael is responsible for the order and balance of nature. It is Michael’s sole responsibility to make sure that the world of man and the world behind the veil, where the true world lies, never cause chaos to one another. But chaos follows Michael’s closest friend, Vincenzo Della Rosa, wherever he goes…

Vincenzo Della Rosa a.k.a. Vincent, The Traitor

Age: Exact age is unknown, even to him. Approximately 1700 years old
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 205 lbs
Eyes: Sapphire blue
Hair: Golden blonde

Traits: Loud, condescending, sarcastic, and sometimes even outright insulting, Vincent is a force to be reckoned with. His time alive has made him very distant, even a little cold. But his aloof nature is a stark opposite of what he is really like inside. He is a fiercely loyal man who always puts others ahead of himself. His great insecurity comes from a great failure in his life, one that he may never forgive himself for….

Vincenzo Della Rosa, Vincent to everyone but his friends, isn’t your everyday hero. He’s sarcastic, lazy, and a shameless alcoholic. But what Liz, and even Michael, will learn is that Vincent himself hides behind those traits to mask a very deep pain. A pain that Liz is inexplicably connected to. This truth will make Vincent’s other secrets, including the fact that he is a 1700 year old vampire, seem small in comparison. But even with all of that in mind, if Vincent is the most powerful of his kind, why doesn’t he rule all of vampire society? The world might not be able to handle the truth.

Author Bio

You would think that as an aspiring writer I could come up with something witty or interesting to say about myself. But the truth is, I mostly enjoy telling stories. It's through stories that we learn the world, learn about our history or traditions, and in doing that we learn about ourselves.

Ever since I was a very young child, my only dream was to become an author one day. To touch people with my words. Hopefully entertain them, maybe even give them something to think about. I use my books to reach people I normally would never reach. The internet has given us a lot of tools to spread the written word now more than ever.

In my life, I've done many things, from supervising sales for big, retail giants, to even being a deputy sheriff. You would think a person who had been shot at for a living would be brave enough to write a biography about themselves. Unfortunately no.

I might be a writer right now, but one day I hope to be able to share my stories and experiences with many people. To be able to expand my globe of knowledge and share ideas with others, that's the dream and goal.

But, the dark court of Unseelie faeries will do everything in their power to rule the earth, including enslaving the human world. Arthas, the Unseelie Ancient King, has shattered the boundaries of Faerie and the human cities are filling with his evil, unearthly armies.

Excerpt

With a blur, she flicked her wrists, and the blade met its target, allowing another smear of red to join the darkened, sticky blood pouring over her fingers and embedding itself in the cracked lines in her hands. The warrior fell, never to fight again. He hadn’t had even a chance to reciprocate. She listened for more, but nothing else echoed across the vast trunks of trees with their branches softly swaying in the breeze, stretching across the horizon like welcoming arms.

Wiping her sword on the dirty clothes covering one of the downed Unseelie she had bested, she frowned, noting their pale skin and blackened eyes. A flash of memory stumped her, and a vision of the malicious Lady Blythe echoed in her mind. The woman’s inhuman screech resonated like a phantom, chastising her as her blackened insect eyes stared her down from a time long ago. Lady Blythe, evil Queen of the Dryads and ally to the Unseelie Queen Aveta, was long dead and only lived in a sliver of Shade’s thoughts.

“Are there any more?” Nautilus bounded from behind her, his long, dark dreadlocks swinging over his shoulders as he halted. Dylan flanked her to the right, covered in equal amounts of dirt and blood. His black hair was dusted from a struggle, and dried leaves stuck to his armor as his gleaming, steel-colored eyes scanned the horizon, eager for more-challenging foes.

“No, that’s the last of them for now,” she answered. She pulled a rag from her pack and wiped her hands as best she could. An odd, chilled feeling washed over her as she watched the rag turn colors from the gore and blood. How long ago had she been a normal teenager, struggling with grades, homework and meddling voices echoing in her head? Now… well, things were vastly different. She was a queen of an entire Faerie realm, engaged to a handsome Teleen warrior, and didn’t have any qualms about killing anyone.

Blog Tour / The Singing River by RK Ryals

The Singing River
NA Contemporary
By R.K. Ryals
Cover Design By Regina Wamba of Mae I Design and Photography

Synopsis:

In Mississippi, there's a legend about a Singing River, a tragic love story that ended with an entire Indian tribe singing a death chant as they marched stoically into the Pascagoula River to die ...

At eighteen, Haven Ambrose isn't just a high school graduate. In her head, she's an aspiring writer, a traveler, a chef, a slayer of injustice, an astronomer, an archaeologist, and the love child of a famous, rich musician. But reality is harsher. Reality is overdue bills, a crumbling trailer, an absent father, an old addiction, and a hot, crushing summer that may end in disappointment.

For twenty year-old River Brayden, life seems good, but appearances can be deceiving. The oldest son of a wealthy family, he has finished his first year at Harvard to return home for the summer only to discover his younger brother headed down an unforgiving road.

They will be drawn together by a song. For during the late summer, they say the Pascagoula death chant can still be heard near the Singing River. Its call is haunting, its chant a testament of love and sacrifice. It calls to some ... beckoning.

Excerpt:

I stepped toward her. “You have a way of making people relate to you.”

She snorted. “I doubt that.”

I was in front of her now, my face peering down into hers. “Really, you do. A few hours of knowing you feels like days.”

“Sounds tiresome,” she teased.

“It’s a gift,” I countered.

There were sudden lines in her forehead, a troubled look in her eye. “Some might call it a curse,” she murmured. “By the end of this trip, you’ll want me gone.”

It was my turn to frown, my gaze studying her face. She had green eyes so dark they could be mistaken for brown and lashes so long they almost touched her brows. True, she was more willowy than curvy, but she was beautiful in an understated, elegant kind of way. The faint freckles on the bridge of her nose drove me crazy.

“Why do you think that?” I asked.

There was something stark and open about her eyes when she answered, “Because I am better at being abandoned than I am at keeping people.”

Review

The Singing River by RK Ryals is an amazing book. The story is very interesting and it had my attention from the very beginning.

Haven Ambrose is an eighteen year old high school graduate who is born into poverty. She lives with her mother and is a waitress at the local diner. Haven has college put on hold for a while until her mother gets a job.

River Brayden is young man who is born into money. He is attending college but is home for the Summer break. His younger brother, Roman is going through some issues and River is wondering what is going on with him.

Haven and River’s journey together begins. It all starts out about the legend of the river. Earlier that day, they met each other for a few minutes at the diner when he was with his younger brother Roman. That afternoon after work, Haven’s mom tells her about her going camping with her boss’s friend. He is investigating about the legend of the river. River’s uncle shows up and he finds out about the camping trip and he decides to go and bring his younger brother, Roman along too whether he wants to or not. They didn’t know until the day of the camping trip that they were going to be together investigating the legend.

What will happen between Haven and River on this camping trip?

RK Ryals has done an awesome job writing this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book. I highly recommend my friends to check this out.

I give this book 5 Dandies!!

Excerpt

Sola pushed her fingers through her hair, trying desperately to untangle the mess of curls bundled at the top of her head. She was late, again, and only had enough time to shower, brush her teeth, and finger combed her hair. She’d thrown on a teal green short-sleeved blouse outlined in black, a pair of skinny jeans, and her most comfortable ballet slippers. There was a small tour at work that day, and she’d decided to dress a bit more business casual than usual.

She looked at the clock on her wall and groaned. “Damned curls! You’re always getting tangled.” She winced as she tugged at them and yanked her scalp.

In high school, her hair had been one of her best features—wild and curly, with a touch of natural copper coloring. The boys always wanted to run their hands through it, and the girls always wondered how an African American mother and father could have possibly produced a toffee-colored girl, with hazel eyes and natural golden highlights. Her mother always said she looked like a young Minnie Gentry, but with a riot of curls on her head. She loved to tell Sola that she had an untamed wildness to her beauty that couldn’t be mimicked with any amount of makeup, but Sola didn’t know who Minnie Gentry was, nor did she care about some untamed wildness.

The alarm on her phone beeped again, and Sola gave up with a huff. She grabbed tangle-free hair band and her spray bottle of water. The water would make detangling her curls easier, but the heat outside would cause her hair to frizz later, but since time wasn’t on her side, she didn’t have a choice. She was supposed to being giving a tour of the shipyard museum to some middle school kids.

She always wondered who really cared about the shipyard. Okay, yes it was where part of the popular horror film Jennifer’s Body was filmed, but in the end the director, Karyn Kusama, cut the scenes that included the shipyard, so what was everyone so excited to see?

It didn’t matter, though; working at Jesper Ship Yard was the only way Sola could keep her tiny apartment without the direct help of her parents.

After throwing her damp hair in a ponytail, she grabbed her bag and headed out the door and down the stairs of her apartment complex.

One lost love.
One lost best friend.
One hot soul reaper.

Straight out of the psyche ward, Cora just wants her life to be normal. She doesn’t want to see souls or the reapers collecting them. The love of her life, the guy she’s loved from a distance for years, has moved away without saying goodbye. So yes, she’s nursing a serious heartbreak. It’s no wonder love is the last thing on her mind when Echo storms into her life.

The chemistry between them is mind-blowing. The connection defies logic. It doesn’t help that Echo is the poster boy for everything she hates in a guy—hot, beautiful, and cocky. A general pain-in-the-butt. Being around him makes her feel more alive than she’s ever felt before. But more important, the souls leave her alone when he is around.

Echo is perfect for her. Echo might even be her soul-mate. There is only one problem. Echo is a freaking soul reaper. A Grimnir. The very beings she wants out of her life. Maybe normal is overrated because Cora wants it all. Answers. Love. A life. You see, once you fall for a Grimnir, your life will never be the same again.

Review | Ghost Town (The Morganville Vampires, Book 9) by Rachel Caine

Blurb

Get ready for "non-stop vampire action" (Darque Reviews) in the latest Morganville Vampire novel from New York Times bestselling author Rachel Caine.

While developing a new system to maintain Morganville's defenses, student Claire Danvers discovers a way to amplify vampire mental powers. Through this, she's able to re-establish the field around this vampire-infested Texas college town that protects it from outsiders.

But the new upgrades have an unexpected consequence: people inside the town begin to slowly forget who they are-even the vampires. Soon, the town's little memory problem has turned into a full-on epidemic. Now Claire needs to figure out a way to pull the plug on her experiment- before she forgets how to save Morganville...

 Review

So far I've devoured nine (9) books in this series and cannot get enough!  Claire has her work cut out for her, a very strong heroine and yet still has moments of weakness.  No doubt about it I believe we all do from time to time.

From time to time Claire tends to get a wild idea up her sleeve and when she does she cannot help but to follow through and see what happens.  In this case Morganville needs a new program to protect the insiders from the outsiders and the outsiders from the insiders.  There's no doubt about it, Claire's going to do it.

After a while Claire gets a bad feeling about the new up and running program.  Weird things start to happen in Morganville and it's up to her to fix it.  She's not sure what she could have possibly done wrong but from the looks of it she might be the only one left to make things right.

This is a series I will definitely be coming back to re-read later on down the road.  Suspense in every book, awesome plots and characters.  There is no turning back once you get into this series.
