Book Blast / Desolation by Travis Simmons

Blurb

Asher St Paul thought it was just a typical zombie apocalypse like in the movies, until the necromancers crawled out of the woodwork. Since the undead have chased the living into hiding, the necromancers are able to roam freely in a new America of their making. Asher is seeking safe harbor. The need for safety is what drove him from his home in Philadelphia Pennsylvania before it was shelled. He has searched from quarantine to quarantine, always finding them overrun with zombies until he hears of The Refuge, a military compound in Binghamton New York.

With his family and lover lain to rest by his own hand, he has nothing left to lose and gives everything he has to reach the safe haven. But questions arise when he reaches The Refuge, mainly, how has he been able to sustain multiple zombie bites and not change? He thinks he has found safety in the military compound turned quarantine, but he was wrong. Even now there is a necromancer trying to make The Refuge their kingdom of the dead.

Author Bio

I have always been a do-it-yourselfer. I haven’t had any formal education on writing, and I haven’t been raised around writer types. For that matter, I wasn’t even encouraged to read when I was a kid, even though plenty of people in my family read. When I was a teenager, I discovered Cliff’s Notes on Mythology, and it sparked something in me. It was like a floodgate had been opened, and all of these stories started rushing in. I would get ideas at random times, and I would jot them down. I have a pretty big file system of everything I have ever written. Someday I will get to them and put them all into electronic files. There is some good material in there, but there are a lot of bad stories too.

I started writing when I was thirteen or fourteen. At an early age I was already writing books of Saracin (the world The Bonds of Blood takes place in). The first book I wrote of that place was “The Calling of the Two” (not yet released). While I was writing that, I kept thinking of these characters Jovian and Angelica. I knew they had a part to play in the storyline, but they weren’t going to be in the same series. For that matter, they weren’t even going to be in the same age. As I finished the first draft of “The Calling of the Two” I went on to write the first book of Angelica and Jovian’s story. At that time it was The Mirror of the Moon. Later an editor told me it was so massive that I should make the one volume into two, and so The Bonds of Blood was born, and The Revenant Wyrd Saga went from a planned three to six.

That story has taken many forms until now, and I am sure if I didn’t declare that it was “done” it could continue to transform.

Along the way, I discovered my passion for research. I absolutely love researching. It would be nothing for me to sit for days on end, barely eating, just getting up to take care of necessities, and research really odd theories and stories. I get my ideas from them to be honest. Of course, my idea’s are never the main theme of the research I am doing, but it always seems to come from some obscure topic mentioned while I am researching. For instance one book I am outlining now is based on something I heard while watching Ancient Aliens.

Unlike most authors, I have not always loved reading and writing. I hated it until I was in 7th grade. My teacher wanted us to read the entire semester. We would read a book and write in a journal about it. Back then the teachers were allowed to spend more time on what their passions were, and actually foster something in their students, and she did just that. She made me love reading and writing. She told me to go to her book shelf and pick out a book that I was interested in. I found one of my first loves: David Eddings’ Pawn of Prophecy.

Back then I was in remedial reading, and my teacher (Mrs. Peters) would sit with me for the time I was in her classroom, taking turns reading the story out loud with me. We would read where the adventure was taking Garion, and then we would flip to the beginning and look at the map so we could follow them as well.

I think it was at that point, getting lost in a book I love to this day, that I knew I had to do this. I had to create the same magic for others that Mr. Eddings created for me.

At times it is boggling. I have three series of books started, and 2 more forming in my mind (and outlined on the computer). At this point I have to step back and finish the ones I have started before I can let myself move forward.

I feel that I am blessed in being able to write, and forging a life of my passion. It is tough at times, but that is what makes the payoff all the sweeter. The writing business is a huge adventure, trying to figure out what to do and what not to do; when to do things and when not to do anything. Currently I am planning the release of the second book to “The Bonds of Blood”. This is the first time I am armed with the knowledge of what I must do for a book release, and I finally understand why it nerves so many authors up, but it is that excitement that makes me love writing. Every time I hear a reader I don’t know praise my work, it makes my heart race and brightens my day.

Travis is the author of The Bonds of Blood, the first book in his epic fantasy series The Revenant Wyrd Saga. He has also written a young adult novel called A Lament of Moonlight which is book one of his pre-apocalypse series The Harbingers of Light. He is currently seeking publication for the first book of a third series, a zombie novel called Desolation. When he isn’t writing he is helping his family and trying to live a normal, under the radar life. His interests lie in cooking, gardening, green living, and human rights advocacy. He is a huge supporter of the Trevor Project and all agencies that seek to preserve natural resources and protect pets from abuse.”

Emma's Playlist
Evan Levesque Bio
Evan Levesque was born on the West Coast with a guitar practically in his hands. His father was a drummer in a band, but Evan was born and the dream changed. Evan’s passion came from his father, along with his natural talent for music. Evan wasn’t formally taught music, in fact, he doesn’t even know how to read or write sheet music. That doesn’t mean much because he can not only play guitar, but also bass, piano, and drums--all by ear. At sixteen him and three of his best friends set out to make a career for themselves, and that they did. By seventeen Evan’s band, Red Moon, had been picked up by a major label, by eighteen he was considered a pop-rock God and that’s when the rumors started. The bad boy was born. Evan’s tattooed and in a band, the perfect mix of everything your mother warned you to stay away from, yet he’s anything but what everyone says he is. It’s just an image--one forced on him by the publicists, the label and the media. Sex sells, and Evan is sexy as hell. At thirty he’s single, still doesn’t look a day over twenty-five (even if he’s forgotten to shave), and he feels out of touch with his music and himself. Then Emma Walker literally falls in front of him, and he can’t resist her kind smile and lack of swoon over him. Evan knows the risks he’s running by falling for a normal girl, especially for her, but he can’t help but be selfish after that first kiss. He’s hooked, she treats him like he’s normal and she loves him as much for his personality as for his music. Suddenly he finds himself loving the stage again, even though he can’t wait to get home to Emma. Evan’s never cared enough about someone to fight for them, but he’s willing to risk everything--including his career--to save Emma from her past. Evan’s got a hot temper and a kind heart; it’s not always the best combination.

Emma Walker Bio
Emma Walker was born in New England in a small town on the coast of Connecticut, and she hasn’t been much of elsewhere since. Her parents don’t recall a time she wasn’t writing as a child, that was always what they thought should would be...and she is--sort of. As a journalist for a local paper Emma feels her English degree is a flop, the creative writing concentration an even bigger flop, and she dislikes the assignments her day job often takes her on. Emma doesn’t complain, though, because she figures it’s her fault she let him win--him being the abusive ex-boyfriend that she only escaped after graduating high school. She doesn’t want to deal with the pain she created with her actions, and is deathly afraid if she picks up a pen again, for real, all of it will come flooding back. Then she rams into Evan Levesque in a gas station and somehow manages to find her tongue without drooling. He’s a normal person after all--just as normal as she is. When they hit it off Emma decides to do something she hasn’t even done with her family; she tells the truth about what happened. With Evan’s help Emma faces her fears head on, and she even finds the strength to stand up to the demon himself.

Blurb

Emma Walker was a writer who'd lost herself to someone else's anger--who had given up on ever feeling like herself again.

Evan Levesque was a rock-god--the one all the woman wanted, but he'd never gotten used to the loneliness between the stage and real life.

With just one cup of coffee they'll begin a journey of self-discovery at each others sides, but can Emma handle Evan's fame while dealing with her own demons? Emma's checkered personal past, a bad relationship that haunts the edges of her memories, threatens to make everything implode on them when Evan takes matters into his own hands.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words...they'll destroy my soul--Can Emma handle being put back together and facing who she's become because of it?

What inspired me to write~

I started writing when I was ten years old. I loved reading and would read the same book over and over again until I got sick of reading it. So when I started to write and realized that I was good at it, I couldn’t stop. I had two and three books going at one time. And then when I got a little older… my imagination got working and I started making up a lot of stories(lied). Anything to make my life seem more interesting and exciting than it really was. And it was good too because everyone believed it! I used such detail for things that were not true that it was unbelievable. It didn’t hit me until I was an adult (and no longer a pathological liar) that I should become a writer. I had always been a dreamer. I daydreamed all the time and still do to this day. And because of that I knew that I could sit down and make all of my stories come to life. I wasn’t always happy that I couldn’t concentrate for longer than five minutes without drifting off but writing gave me a purpose to do that. In a sense, it was a way to be ok with my “ADD” like, spells of daydreaming. There was a purpose. I was writing and it was ok for me to “dream” these things and then write them down and watch them come to life in the coolest way!

SYNOPSIS

Michelle Marshall is a strong independent woman with a lot of baggage. Raped right before the start of her senior year of college, Michelle grows to be a caring, single mother to her daughter. Things begin to look pretty grim when the Charity House, the women's shelter she founded, is on the brink of having to close its doors. That is, until Tyler Austin, a mysterious and handsome stranger comes into the picture. Helping Michelle resuscitate the Charity House, Ty also helps her learn to trust, love and feel what she hasn't in years. Not everything is quite as perfect as Michelle would like though, as occasional hints lead her to believe something is not quite right. Her suspicions are confirmed when even more frightening developments occur and start to become...deadly.

EXCERPT

Moving away she noticed that Ty was staring across the street. Michelle turned to see the same black car that had been sitting idle not so long ago.

Stepping outside, Ty’s eyes stayed fixed on the car across the street. He puffed up his chest in an intimidating way. The moment he started to make long strides toward the street, the car that was sitting there sped off, leaving tire marks and white smoke in its departure.

Michelle walked swiftly to the curb where Ty had stopped walking.

“Ty, who was that?”

He turned back to Michelle, his face now back to a more gentle expression. Nobody. I don’t want you to worry about that.”

A moment passed and his phone chimed. Pulling his iPhone out of his pocket, he inspected the screen and stepped away from Michelle as he hit the talk button.

“I have to go, Michelle. I’ll call you tonight.”

He didn’t even give her a chance to wish him good night. Before she could blink, he was already in his car. He took off down the street nearly as fast as the black car had done seconds ago.

Michelle stood there confused. She didn’t know what had gotten Ty so up in arms, but she did have a feeling that it had something to do with the black car.

As Michelle turned to walk back up her driveway, she heard a car pull up. Turning, she saw the same black car. She froze. She couldn’t see who was inside the car, but she knew that they were watching her. Michelle could feel their eyes burning through her.

Just as quickly as the car pulled up, it took off again, this time more slowly than the last. She felt that they were trying to send her a message. Whatever it was, she knew it wasn’t a good one. It was something they wanted her to think about. Maybe something Ty should be thinking about too.

Either way, Michelle couldn’t wait for her parents to get home, because she knew it would not be the last time she would see it. She just wasn’t sure what would happen when she saw it again.

Tour Stop | Star Struck by Amber Garza

Book Title: Star Struck
Author: Amber Garza
Release Date: June 15th
Genre: Contemporary Romance / New Adult
Length: 300 pages
Publisher: Amber Garza
Presented by: As You Wish Tours

Why I wrote STAR STRUCK

When I was a little girl I had two dreams - to become a famous singer and a famous author. I’m lucky enough to say that my dream of becoming an author came true (minus the whole famous thing). But I never realized my dream of being a famous singer.

However, the nice thing about being an author is that I get to live vicariously through my characters every day. That’s how the idea for STAR STRUCK was born. I thought it would be fun to write a contemporary romance about two rockstars. This way I get the best of both worlds. This book combines both of my loves – writing and music.

I had a blast experiencing Star and Beckett’s rockstar lifestyle and their budding romance. I also loved writing the lyrics to their songs. I hope you enjoy their story as much as I loved writing it.

BLURB

I don’t go for bad boys, or rockers.
And I don’t believe in love at first sight.
Until I see Beckett.
And things only get worse when I hear him sing.
There is no one like him.
The problem is that he wants nothing to do with me.
And I know I should stay away from him.
It’s the smart thing to do.
Only when it comes to Beckett I don’t want to do the smart thing. He makes me want to take a risk.
I just hope he decides to take a risk on me too.

Review

I absolutely loved this book!  A fast page turner, loveable characters, humor and well written.  Star was easy to embrace, while Beckett was even easier to fall in love with.  If your the type to have fictional boyfriends, Beckett is the one.  ::swoon::

The story starts where every story starts, from the beginning, and from there on I was captivated, glued to the book like there was no end in sight.  With the growing bond the characters have, the questions that arise as I was growing to love both Star and Beckett, there was no way I could stand to put this book down.  I had to know both Star and Beckett's story.  I wanted to know what made them both tick and what brought them to this place in their lives.

By the time I got the answers to the questions I had, the author threw in another twist, one I was not expecting and wanted to smash my Kindle against the wall for.  Yes it was that intense!  **Don't worry my kindle is safe, as I refrained from doing so.** Star Struck is a must read for anyone that loves a good Contemporary Romance Novel.  A book I would definitely recommend.

Review

The Forgotten Ones
Book One of The Danaan Trilogy
by: Laura Howard

Allison is a young lady who's life has not been easy. Living with her grandparents, Allison (Al) has taken responsibility, to a degree, of her mother's condition and tries her best to help her mother. Al is a wonderful central character – she is strong, flawed, and has a great sense of responsibility. Nicole, Al's cousin, and Ethan, a young man whom Allison fights an attraction to, are great supporting characters.

First you get a sense of who Allison is and what her world is like. Slowly you begin to see that there's more going on than just family, boys, and a schizophrenic mother. Al begins to realize that her world is much bigger and confusing than she thought once she discovers her “fae” family.

The Forgotten Ones had me hooked from the first paragraph and left me begging for more once the last sentence was read! Writing beautifully of both the Tuatha de Danaan, and modern worries, Laura crafts a marvelous story with true-to-life characters (even those that are the stuff of myth and legend). The flow and balance of The Forgotten Ones was perfect and I can't wait for the next story!

5 Dandies!!

Teaser | Exposure by Christina Mobley

Teaser

Ava opened the drapes and allowed herself to feel the storm that raged outside. The thunder was coming in waves; its roar matching the rhythm of her heart. The forbidding clouds and heavy rain sent chills dancing along her spine. She didn’t need this right now. She pressed her palms to the window, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. A warm tingling began to make its way through her body, beginning in her feet then working its way up to tickle her hands. The storm began to fade. The sun banished the dark clouds and its warmth began to heat the glass beneath her palms. She watched as sunbeams spread out across the sandy beach and began to kiss the tips of the waves as it turned the water from gray to blue. She pulled her hands back, stared out the window for a moment and smiled.

Synopsis

No good deed goes unpunished.

Abandoned by her mother, raised by an indifferent father, Riley has accepted the fact that she would be alone always. She has no idea that a single act of kindness would propel her into a world where creatures that shouldn’t exist guard the human race from the demons that lurk in the shadows. That it will cost her the lives of those she loves while unearthing a destiny she never imagined with a man who is forbidden to love her. She finds passion, romance and the family she’d been searching for her entire life, but at what cost and what is she willing to sacrifice to find answers and happiness?

Octavian Maxwell has always known his place. He is a Caster, a Son of Judgment. His job is to protect the mortal world from the creatures plotting to destroy it. Instead, his world is shattered when a human girl walks into Final Judgment, a girl he has been searching for his entire life, a girl he is forbidden to ever touch. Being with her will break the oath he’s sworn to never love a mortal. But his heart has already found its mate and it refuses to let go.

Final Judgment… a place undetected, a gateway to a evil and a legend that will undo everything anyone has ever known about our world.

Excerpt

“I know.” The two words ghosted against the skin of her neck, sending goose bumps down her spine. “But I want to touch you. I want to put my hands all over you. I want to kiss every inch of you and taste you as you come apart in my arms. I want to feel you wrapped around me with nothing but my name on your lips and the sheets a tangled mess beneath us. I want…” He exhaled heavily into her ear. “I want. I want. I want!”

It was purely the hard surface at her back that kept her from sliding in a puddle at his feet. Her body thrummed. Her knees quivered. She was so hot it was a wonder she hadn’t exploded.
“Do it, Octavian” She ghosted the tips of her fingers along the hem of his shirt. “Touch me.”

He growled low in his throat, his forehead dropping another inch toward her shoulder, his hair tickling the side of her face. “Be my angel, Riley, not my siren. Don’t tempt me.”

Moistening her lips with a sweep of her tongue, Riley glided her fingers over his belt, tracing the strip of leather to the silver buckle in the center. She felt rather than heard his deep inhalation and the tremor that raked his powerful body. Driven by his surrender, she used two fingers to walk over the square carvings etched into his abdomen, biting her lip to stop the grin that pulled when he groaned.

“I want to be both for you, Octavian,” she whispered, letting her lips brush the curve of his shoulder.

Review

Have you ever held on by a thread, and that thread becomes your lifeline, your hope?  This is how I felt reading this book. Riley and Octavian's hope was my lifeline, what kept me turning the pages, wanting more.  The amazing characters, thrilling plot and the twists and turns throughout the story is the very foundation to a whole new written world.  Without reading the teasers or the excerpt above before reading the first page, I found myself drawn into the story.  Then finally decided to read the book description at 12%, I had hoped to get some answers that were building from the beginning.

Airicka Phoenix's writing grabs your attention and there's nothing you can do because simply putting the book down is not an option.  I've read her Touching Saga & Games of Fire.  She pulls you into her written world, with emotions, wonderful characters, thrilling plots and tortures her readers with the unknown.  I am definitely a fan for life.  Anything she releases I will have in my hands.  I would love to have a signed collection of everything she has out now and what she has to come.  When you don't even read the description of a book before opening it to the first page, that should tell you something.

About the Author
Airicka Phoenix is the best-selling author of The Touch Saga, The Dare Trilogy and Games of Fire with short stories in Whispered Beginnings: A Clever Fiction Anthology and Midnight Surrender Anthology. When she's not hammering away at the keyboard, she can be found banishing pirates or crawling through the attic looking for lost treasure with her kids. She loves baking, gardening and reading. She also likes to travel and take pictures of everything she comes across. When asked, Airicka describes herself as a sarcastic basket case that has an unhealthy addiction to chocolate, old movies and really bad jokes. She loves to laugh, make friends and write. If she could have one wish granted, it would be to spend one day as a fly-on-the-wall inside Stephen King's mind. If she could have two wishes granted, she would ask for a castle dedicated entirely to her overwhelming collection of books. Visit Airicka Phoenix's Design page Airicka's Mystical Creations.
